The word woman can be used generally, to mean any female human, or specifically, to mean an adult female human. A female human is referred to as a girl (a female child or adolescent). The plural women is sometimes used in certain phrases such as "women's rights" to denote female humans regardless of age.

The word girl originally meant "young female person of either sex" in English; it was only around the beginning of the 16th century that it came to mean specifically a female child.
While the Cambridge Dictionary's primary definition for “woman” remains “an adult female human being,” a second definition refers to “an adult who lives and identifies as female though they may have been said to have a different sex at birth.
Similarly, the British reference guide defines “man” as “an adult male human being” and also “an adult who lives and identifies as male though they may have been said to have a different sex at birth.” This understanding is uncommon and is thought to be a disorder in which a man becomes a woman.

There are a lot of ways to be a woman. For some, womanhood is strength. For others, it's tenderness. Womanhood might be pushing yourself in school or in your career, or helping to lift others up. You can be a woman wearing a dress and heels, or when you're tying up your work boots.
